Two Hinsdale mansions were listed within days of each other with asking prices over $6.5 million. The highest recorded sale price in the town is $5.5 million, according to Midwest Real Estate Data.
A 10,500-square-foot, five-bedroom house on Oak Street was listed Aug. 3 for $6.65 million, followed Aug. 9 by an eight-bedroom house on Park Avenue whose square footage is not given but whose asking price is $6.7 million.
Both homes are represented by Dawn McKenna of Coldwell Banker, who was not available to talk while traveling this week, according to her voicemail.
The 15-room Oak Street house is on an acre and has interior features such as a wood-trussed, two-story ceiling in the family room, a stone-walled wine room and a roofed outdoor terrace, all seen in the listing.
Gordon and Amy Walker bought the house in 2006 from its builder for a little more than $5 million, according to the DuPage County recorder of deeds. They could not be reached for comment.
The Park Avenue house, built in 1978 next to a pond, has an indoor pool, an elevator, and extensive woodwork in the foyer, library kitchen, as seen in the listing.
William and Mary Ryan have owned the home since 2007, according to the DuPage County Recorder, but the records do not show what they paid for it. In 1958 William Ryan founded Lombard-based Town & Country Homes, a development firm that the next generation of the family sold in 2005. The Ryans could not be reached for comment.
The highest recorded sale price in Hinsdale is $5.5 million for a mansion in 2007. Three Hinsdale homes sold for $5 million or more between 2007 and 2009, but in more recent years, the highest publicly listed sale in town was $4.96 million, for a home on Elm Street that sold in January 2015.
Besides the two new $6 million-plus listings, two homes in Hinsdale are on the multiple-listing service for more than $5 million. One of them, a 12,000-square-foot contemporary on Elm Street, was listed in 2013 for $9.5 million but is now priced at just under $5.5 million.
