Foxford Station landscaping debated as condominiums prepare for July opening

Landscaping around the new Foxford Station condominiums at Wolf Road and Burlington Avenue will be farther from the street, under plans selected by Cook County that differ from traditional greenery closer to the curb in downtown Western Springs.

Community Development Director Martin Scott said Monday two plans for landscaping were presented to Cook County officials, who must sign off on the plan because Wolf Road is under county jurisdiction. Burlington Avenue is under the jurisdiction of the village.

Because of their concerns about the effects of traffic and winter salt, county officials preferred the plan that keeps the landscaping farther back against building.

Scott noted that trees and benches are also planned for the Wolf Road side of the development. Officials and developers are also hoping a restaurant will occupy much of the first floor, so the village’s plan allows for outdoor dining as an option.

Foxford is being built in the Downtown South Tax Increment Financing District, the first TIF district in Western Springs. The Village Board created the TIF in 2015 to provide property tax incentives to lure developers such as Foxford Station LLC as part of long-term plans to revitalize the downtown.
